What to Wear for Family Photos

What to Wear for Family Photos1

I was so flattered that after I posted my family photos, so many of you were interested in my looks! It inspired me to write a post on what to wear for family portraits. It can be so tricky! My advice is the following:

  • Choose outfits that are timeless and will look beautiful 5, 10, or 20 years later when you reflect on these special moments.
  • Be mindful of how your body will move and what will be shown in the photos – especially if you’re holding a baby. I didn’t want to have my chest out or too much legs, so I specifically looked for midi and maxi dresses.
  • Let your beautiful family be the focus! I would avoid super bright colors or wild prints that might distract or be an eyesore with multiple people in frame.
With those tips in mind, here are some of my favorite picks for what to wear for your family photos!
  1. Zimmermann Poppy DressThe first of my looks. I love the subtle scallop detailing and light pink embroidery that is not too overwhelming. I thought it was gorgeous to complement a baby girl’s nursery and pink outfits.
  2. Self Portrait Floral Dress: If you’re comfortable with a strappier number (could be beautiful for Summer portraits), this baby blue stunner is gorgeous for family photos with a little boy.
  3. Self Portrait Midi Dress: I love the modesty of this dress with the feminine details, including the mesh neckline and sleeves, as well as dainty jeweled belt. It beautifully combines the classic and playfully modern.
  4. Aje Mimosa Dress: Another dress that combines vintage silhouettes with modern details. The tafetea and puff sleeves are modernized with strategically placed cutouts and a sweet shade of cotton candy pink.
  5. Rodebjer Tunic: The second of my looks! I am absolutely obsessed with this dress and its timeless appeal. It’s a classic all-cream option with dainty cutouts and a beautiful silk texture!
  6. Needle & Thread Sequin DressThis gorgeous dress adds a bit of sparkle without being too much. The beautiful pastel color palette is just muted enough to tone down the showy aspect of sequins.
  7. Zimmermann Botanica Dress: Another modest, but flattering Zimmermann number. The delicate print has that subtle transition to blue that won’t be too distracting. It would pair beautifully with a little boy’s look!
  8. Philosophy Poplin DressA classic and crisp white dress is always a good idea! I love this one with a ruffle neckline that adds a bit of flare.

Major Mules

Major Mules

Mules are quite possibly my favorite style of shoe. The ease of slipping them on can’t be beat! And while I love my Gucci slip-on flats, the heeled mules are really where this style shines. The ease combined with the polish of a heel can make any casual outfit infinitely more stylish. Take a look below for the heeled mules that have my heart!

1. Manolo Blahnik Maysale MulesOne of the classic Manolo silhouettes that can be dressed up or down. I love the variety of colors, but powder blue is my favorite at the moment.

2. Christian Louboutin Just Nothing: A barely-there mule with an iconic red sole.

3. Gianvito Bow Mules: Super sleek with a flirty satin bow detail. I’d love these with light jeans and a crisp white shirt.

4. Dior Fabric Mules: An easy way to add a splashy designer name to your look!

5. By Far Suede Mules: Simple and classic. I love the tan suede that will pair perfectly with every sundress for Spring and Summer.

Best Luxury Push Presents

brown-paper-doll-rolex

While the greatest gift of having a baby is the moment you hold your child in your arms, moms know it’s quite the process to get to that moment. Morning sickness, aches and pains, and that’s before the actual birth. Because of this, another joy that so many new moms can experience is that of the push present. Jason wanted to get me something really special for the 9+ months, and I wanted something beautiful to commemorate Élodie’s arrival.

I had a hard time selecting something beautiful, but I knew I wanted it to be something tangible (vs an experience) that I could hold and have for years to come. I also wanted it to be something luxurious that I could potentially pass down to Elle. So what did I get you ask? I opted for a classic steel/white gold Rolex with diamonds. But that wasn’t the only option I was considering. So if you’re about to celebrate the arrival of your previous little one, or you simply want to treat yourself to a splurge-worthy present, then here are my picks for the best luxury push presents.

Rolex: The most iconic luxury watch that will become an heirloom over the years. Not only will the watch keep its value, but it’s also a special piece that can be worn both for casual and special occasions. I’m so obsessed with my watch and I can’t wait to hand it down to Elle one day!

Cartier Jewelry: Another classic brand with so many romantic pieces. You can opt for something from the iconic Love collection, like the famous bracelet. I personally love the Trinity collection and thought it was symbolic to have the three intertwined rings, especially with the arrival of our first child. While I chose a Rolex for my push present, Jason spoiled me with this ring for my Christmas present.

Baby’s Gemstone: Another way to celebrate the arrival of baby is to get a piece of jewelry in their birthstone. With the meaning so apparent, It will make you smile when you look at it, and it’s another great piece you can hand down. I recently treated myself to a ring in Elle’s birthstone of blue topaz.

Luxury Bag: While I’m never one to turn down jewelry, I also love a good luxury bag. I think bags might be a little less special since they can take more everyday wear and tear, but a truly splurge-worthy bag is a great gift to feel spoiled and celebrate the occasion. My pick would be the classic Chanel flap bag (I’ve been eyeing the jumbo) which will be elegant for years to come.

Anything Diamond: When in doubt, anything diamond! The symbol of luxury, a diamond is always sure to please. Try a solitaire diamond necklace, or perhaps a bangle or tennis bracelet.
