What to wear to work in the mornings can sometimes be a last minute decision. I try to avoid the “What am I going to wear?” conundrum (more on that later), but it’s bound to happen. In those moments, I find myself reaching for a couple go-to outfits that are comfortable, but look polished. One of these quasi-work uniforms is a combination of navy, black, and touches of gold. The black Rag & Bone pants are stretchy, comfortable, but glamorous with the gold-tone zips down both legs. Also Rag & Bone, is my favorite t-shirt that is a marled jersey, both navy and black when you look closely.
I love throwing on a scarf for work, because it’s easy to throw over your shoulders when office temperatures fluctuate. The metallic gold threads in my Louis Vuitton shawl scarf make it one of my favorite items I own. And of course, I accessorize my look with additional gold accents – an oversized Target watch, classic aviators, and micro-earrings with a J monogram for my love.
And yes…I totally wrote this post with Rihanna’s voice stuck in my head.
Being from the South, I always found myself to be more of a sundress girl. However, since living in New York, I have a new-found appreciation for throwing on a comfy t-shirt with a pair of jeans for ease. Of course, I still dress the combo up with a cute pair of heels and usually a blazer or leather jacket. I think it adds a bit more polish and style to a work-day outfit.
I have a couple graphic tees that I wear on rotation, including a vintage Adidas and super soft Pink Floyd shirt left over from a commercial shoot I worked on. But my absolute favorite is my Hall & Oates concert tee that my husband got me when we saw the duo on tour this year. Jason and I adore H&O, so every time I wear the shirt, I have happy memories of dancing the night away at the concert. And while even though I don’t wear t-shirts often, I think the personal connection makes it even more special when I do.
My mom loves to write hand-written notes and letters. I love Sugar Paper’s products, as they are always classy, but have personality. I actually chose Sugar Paper cards when writing to my parents and now husband on my wedding day. The classic notepad with gold foil detail would be a pretty accent to mom’s desk. SP also has custom stationary available if your mom loves to write letters like mine does. And if it’s a little bit of a splurge, Etsy is also a great destination for personal stationary. I love this store that lets you customize and make a truly personalized gift!
You can’t go wrong with a wallet, because I think it’s a luxury gift that you might not buy for yourself. I love this Prada card case, because it’s obviously beautiful, but it’s also the perfect size for slipping in a clutch or cross-body on a summer evening.
My mom is a serious candle lover who creates ambiance by burning candles all over the house every evening. This Diptyque candle is always a favorite, filling any room with its sultry, floral scent.
My mom actually got a Clarisonic a couple years ago for Mother’s Day, and she absolutely fell in love. The deep-clean feeling is amazing and undeniable. The Mia Fit is a new addition to the Clarisonic line, boasting an even more compact and light-weight design with two speeds (delicate and power cleanse). It’s the perfect size for a mom on the go and can even be charged with a USB chord when traveling.
I’ve recently found myself becoming one of those women who is constantly putting on hand cream. Call me a grandma, but I just call myself moisturized! My favorite hand cream by far is the hand treatment by La Mer. It’s gel-cream texture goes on like silk, and doesn’t have a thick or greasy feeling. I love that my hands instantly feel moisturized, but still clean – and without a film over my rings. I know it seems like a splurge, but once you try it, you’ll be obsessed. And so will mom!
My friend Rachel wears the Margiela “Jazz Club” fragrance, and ever since I smelled the slightly masculine and smoky vanilla scent – I’ve been wanting a bottle of Margiela’s “Replica” to call my own. While Jazz Club might be perfect for the cooler months, Flower Market is amazing for spring. It’s fresh, crisp, and you guessed it…floral, while not being overpowering.
