Velvet Vibes

Velvet. Velvet. Velvet…. The trend of the season!
We all know I love shoes, so I’d be remiss if I didn’t write a post showcasing the hottest footwear in Fall’s most luxe fabric.

Sandals, booties, and fresh kicks – I’ve got them all. Below you’ll find my favorite velvet picks to up your shoe game!

1. Club Monaco Zadie Bootie– A luxe midnight navy bootie – These are chic enough to wear with dresses and tights, or throw them on for a stylish day at work with a simple pair of dark jeans.  I love the simplicity of the boot shape, and the sapphire shade that will make you want to give you classic black boots a rest.

2. Prada Platform Sandal– A vampy bordeaux sandal with a platform that will make your legs look miles long. I think every holiday party deserves these retro-inspired babies.

3. Steve Madden Bertie-V Platform Sneaker– Want a more sporty take on the velvet trend? I’ve got you! Incorporate these rich sneakers with satin laces (ballet class, anyone?) into your wardrobe with ease. I find the color a little bit unexpected, and I love that it really shows off the fabrics.  Sometimes with dark colors, it’s hard to see the velvety texture.  No such issue with these! I also love the platform sole… I’m sold.

4. Joie Nabile Platform Sandal– I love a good taupe shoe. It’s kinda brown…it’s kinda grey…it’s kinda green. The ambiguity of the shade allows it to go with so much! Again, the color is a little on the unexpected side and can really elevate an outfit.  I love the knot detail and ankle strap. Uber sexy to wear with jeans rolled up at the ankle, or with a flirty skirt.

5. Alexandre Birman Clarita d’Orsay Sandal– My personal favorite of the bunch. This classic silhouette by Alexandre Birman gets re-worked for the Fall season in a plush navy velvet. The combination of the designer’s signature bow and ankle tie is both sweet AND sexy at once.  These are a more delicate approach than the other heels on this list, and would be perfect for every holiday party!

6. Jimmy Choo Mavy Peep-Toe Lace-Up Bootie– These booties are a little bit rock and roll, and I LOVE them. With the lace-up front and peep toe, they can be dressed up or down.  These are just a little more unique than your average black boot!

What do y’all think? Have you hopped on the velvet trend this season?

On a perfectly cool and crisp morning, Jason and I decided to head out for a walk in Central Park before the weekend crowd usually hits. Admittedly, this is about as naturey as I’ll get if there’s not an ocean around – but the fresh air and autumn leaves were absolutely gorgeous. Even I had to give in to the splendor of nature on that morning.

We walked hand-in-hand, sipped lattes from our go-to coffee shop (shout-out to REX) and shared stories from the week. Despite sounding cliché, it was really nice to take a break from the noise and crowd of the city and just chill. Oh, speaking of chill… Did I mention that it has gotten really cold really fast. But I’m not complaining, the chilly weather gave me an excuse to get a new coat! My new black Rag & Bone beauty is a long and tailored peacoat with military-inspired shoulder epaulettes. I call it my Severus Snape coat… because I feel a tad bit dark and villainous in it. I also love that it feels a bit more masculine than my other coats.

For this morning’s stroll, I paired my coat with a simple long-sleeved Theory dress. Since it’s a bit on the short side, I layered it under my favorite shawl-collared, olive silk vest. To add some drama and polish, I finished my look with my AllLegs boots, two gold necklaces, and my Chanel boy bag. I love the autumnal feel of this olive and black pairing, and how each piece can be mixed and matched so easily. I feel like there are infinite possibilities with all of these favorites! I’ve already thrown my coat over so many Fall outfits and instantly feel put-together. Stay tuned on how I wear it next!

For many of you who know me personally, you know that I spend a couple weeks a year visiting my brother in Ireland. I’ve been going for the past 13 years so Ireland has unofficially become my home away from home. It’s been interesting and amazing to see how the city has evolved in recent years. I’ve seen the tech industry blossom, new and modern architecture rise, and the coming and going of my favorite stores and restaurants. However, one thing that hasn’t changed is the warmth of the Irish people and the infectious spirit that you immediately feel upon arrival.

Needless to say, part of my heart will always be in Dublin with my brother. However, I feel very fortunate that I can keep visiting and experience the wonders of the city year after year. One thing that’s also evolved with each visit are my outfits!

This year I felt like I packed particularly light – simply packing ripped jeans, basic dresses and surprisingly only 2 of my moto jackets! I realized that in previous years I packed distinct outfits for each day, whereas this time I packed black and neutral basics that I was easily able to mix and match.
The Irish weather is notoriously temperamental, with bursts of sunshine quickly being blown away by cool wind and rain. With that in mind, my Irish outfits always consist of layers that keep me warm, but ready for any change in temperature.

For this particular look, I layered a simple, neutral Zara dress with an olive Club Monaco vest. The vest is a new purchase that has already paid for itself tenfold. I find myself layering it over short dresses, skirts, and of course, ripped jeans. I love the longer hemline, accessible pockets, and dusty green shade that goes with everything. Thanks Dublin for giving me the opportunity to break out my Fall-wear a little earlier this year! Do you dolls have an item you can’t wait to wear this Fall?
