So I must admit…last year I went a little bag crazy. I got my Chloe and my Chanel, but when I saw this Saint Laurent “Sac De Jour,” I instantly fell in love. Usually I’m a sucker for shoes, but I guess this was the year for me to up my bag game!
Translated literally, sac de jour means “bag of the day.” But I think this bag isn’t just for the tastes of a day…it’s for a lifetime. Perched high on a shelf, I spotted the rich cognac color from afar. And yes, the color combined with the classic shape bear an uncanny resemblance to the Hermes Birkin (sorry I’m not sorry). Honestly, I love it! I was torn between this and a fiery red, faux crocodile mini version (seen here), but something told me that I would love this classic color and larger size for many years to come. I also think you can wear a caramel or cognac bag from season to season! Other details I love? The white top-stitching and leather-encased padlock. With a removable leather pouch in the center (perfect for your phone and lipstick), the bag combines sophisticated elegance with practicality. I’ve already worn my bag a couple times (like here), so I hope you stay tuned to see how I style it next! So yeah…maybe I went a little overboard with the bags. But really, can you blame me?

With the new year starting not too long ago, I’ve been reflecting upon the past year’s accomplishments and goals for the future. Just in 2016, I traveled to new places, got a new job, made new friends, and beat Jason countless times in Jeopardy! But one of my most special accomplishments has been this…starting my blog! I must admit, it’s a lot harder than it seems to overcome the inertia and start a passion project. Not only do you have to find the resources to get things going, but also muster the courage to simply put yourself out there. So as I think about my personal goals for 2017, I thought I would share with you a little more about Brown Paper Doll.
Like many others, I fell in love with fashion at a very early age. And as I’ve grown, so has my love for all things stylish. As bloggers continued to rise in popularity, I soon found myself following my favorites and finding inspiration for my own wardrobe. *Side note, some of my favorite bloggers over the years include Atlantic to Pacific, Happily Grey, and Cupcakes & Cashmere. I actually remember thinking about starting my very own blog in 2012! I thought…I love fashion, people always complement me on my outfits, I have nice clothes and some high-end pieces… I should go for it! But something always stopped me… I always felt like I was meant to be an admirer and not a creator. Well I guess 2016 was my year to change that perspective.
After going through a rough time and feeling an overwhelming amount of negativity, I felt like I needed something to bring back some joy to my life. The idea of a blog sounded appealing once more…but this time it was different. Yes I have nicer clothes now, and I live in New York City, but my perspective and the overwhelming support from the most amazing friends and family were really what pushed me to move forward with my endeavor. I now had support to help me get started with photography, with web coding, with the writing, and to simply lend a listening ear – you all know who you are so thank you! Which brings me to the main idea of this post… why I blog.
I started this blog to be cathartic in a sense, express some bottled creativity, and light up a different side of my brain that I don’t necessarily use all the time. I feel the positive energy from spending time on a passion of mine and pursuing a hobby outside of work, cooking dinner, and a bedtime read. But I’m also blogging to silence the part of me that told myself I was a bystander and not a creator, that I didn’t look like the typical blogger who filled my newsfeeds. But I soon realized you don’t have to be or look a certain type of way to go for what you want. This sounds cliché, but diversity is beautiful! And yes, sometimes I still get embarrassed and self-conscious and think I look fat in photos, or I don’t have all the clothes I want, or I’m doing this all for nothing or only a handful of people who follow me – but at least I’m doing it. Time will tell how my style and my blog will continue to evolve, but to those of you reading, thank you! Here’s to following our passions, going out of our comfort zones, and hopefully buying some great new shoes!

It’s a New Year, so time for a new lust list! To be totally honest, it took me a while to come up with a number of lust-worthy items this week. I guess I’m still in bliss after getting goodies over the holidays. But in true me fashion, I found some things I wouldn’t mind having… ok, I’m totally lusting. So here you have it ladies and gentlemen…the first lust list of 2017!
1. Chanel Brooch– Let’s start this year of with a bang, shall we? Coming in hot at #1 is this metallic and crystal Chanel brooch. I’m really intrigued by the idea of a brooch…especially in the Fall and Winter months. I see myself pinning it on layers such as a field jacket, or even on an overcoat (like this one!) I especially love this one from Chanel because it has just the right amount of glitz. Wear this to instantly accessorize any outfit with a ladylike touch.
2. Rag & Bone Arrow Print Sweater– I just think this wool sweater from Rag & Bone is so cool. With a unique arrow print, it combines my favorite winter-wear colors. Style this with black jeans and loafers, or metallic boots.
3. Gucci Leather Loafer Slides– Speaking of loafers…a comfy pair is always classic. And a pair of Gucci loafers with the horsebit detail, now that’s just chic. A modern take of Gucci’s iconic loafer, I love this slip-on pair in either black or rich brown. I know that the fur-lined version became very trendy recently, but I think this classic pair will never go out of style. Slip these on to elevate jeans and a t-shirt, or dress it up with a trendy midi dress.
4. Charlotte Tilbury Luminous Modern-Matte Lipstick– The hottest new lipstick on the market. I love Charlotte Tilbury’s “Matte Revolution” lipsticks. They come in the most gorgeous, buildable shades and the gold packaging is to die for. I really want every color!
5. Glossier Super Pure Facial Serum– The winter months can be brutal on your skin, so I try to put in some extra TLC when I can. Glossier (the cool girl’s beauty brand) can help you do just that with their super pack of serums. Dry skin? Dull skin? Problem skin? The super pack has just the serum for you. I want to give this a shot because I really like the message, branding, and overall ethos behind the brand. I can’t wait to give this variety pack of serums a shot!
6. ASOS Fishnet Ankle Socks– Last but not least…how cool are the fishnet socks? Don’t look to these to keep your toes warm, but instead add some cool dimension peaking out from booties, platform sneakers, and you guessed it…loafers!
