So this past weekend, my friends from New York came down for a visit to say hello and check out my new home.

Every time the three of us get together, it’s the most fun ever, and this weekend was no exception! We ate at the most amazing restaurants, visited the aquarium, watched movies, and of course…went shopping. I got a new dress for Summer (coming soon to the blog) and the girls got an amazing white moto jacket and a Dior scarf, amongst other goodies. And while all of those things were a blast, it was just nice to be with my two best friends who feel like home. It was hard to leave New York and say goodbye, but this trip left me feeling as hopeful as ever that distance won’t separate us. And it was nice to share my new home with them and let them see me move on to a new stage in life. Go figure…it’s like we’re growing up or something!

Regardless of what we do together, it’s always a fashion-filled affair. We each have such different styles, so it’s so fun to go shopping and also pick out things we think will suit each other. While we were hitting the shops, I noticed that a lot of the items I gravitated to were the color flame- you know, kind of a poppy red hue. And then I realized that I did the same thing last year. I got this hot red number, and my Tom Ford “Flame” lipstick! Well, sticking with that tradition, I got myself a new Summer dress for 2017 in the same shade. I think the color is flattering on everyone, and the peekaboo cut-out shows some skin, without being too much. The best part? It’s under $60 – can you believe it! I think it’s the perfect dress for the 4th of July, a BBQ, outdoor cocktails, or simply a plain ol’ hot Summer’s day! (For more of my fav picks in this color check out these: Delfi, Donna Morgan,  Zara and Veronica Beard).

So you’re probably thinking that the photos above look a tad bit different than what I usually post. That’s because this shoot was styled and photographed by my incredibly talented friend, Jacque Lombardo.  Jacque and I met on her first day at our advertising agency and we soon found mutual comfort and joy in each other, despite both being assigned to a horrible project.  I’d like to think it was fate! And to be quite honest, Jacque had an instrumental role in helping me get started with this blog – so I’ll forever be in her debt and appreciate her unparalleled kindness and expertise.  Jacque was also the one who shot the first couple of looks for Brown Paper Doll before Jason took over the photography reins.

Recently, she mentioned she wanted to shoot me again, this time to create something more editorial. I told her to do whatever she wanted, and I was on board! For this shoot, we chose a formal Veronica Beard gown, my navy faux-fur stole, simple nude sandals and my new favorite earrings, designed locally in NYC.

While this hair and makeup definitely isn’t an everyday look for me, I thought it was great to be pushed out of my comfort zone and experience a different side of fashion and photography.  Actually, I felt like I was in an episode of America’s Next Top Model where the girls get styled for a high-fashion shoot! While I’m no model, I did my best in Central Park and felt like the setting was perfect to highlight the bronzy, nude tone of the dress.  And I’m pretty proud of us, because believe me when I say this was probably the coldest day of the year in New York! Brrrr!  Despite being reserved for formal occasions, I feel like the gown is a great addition to my wardrobe, as it’s glamorous but simple enough to be in style for years to come.

While Jacque and I don’t work together anymore, it was great to collaborate on this fun shoot.  So thanks for pushing me out of box and into the park…freezing as it may have been!
