They say that home is where the heart is. And it’s hard to believe that 2017 will mark a decade since I first left mine in the great (and crazy) state of Florida. It seems that just yesterday I packed my bags for Nashville, then started my post-grad life in Atlanta, and now this southern transplant has ended up in the big apple. I have to say that growing up, I always saw myself leaving home to experience cities and discover new adventures. However, every time I visit Florida I instantly remember why it’s such a great place to grow up. While I love the flash, class, and energy of the big city, there’s something about driving with the windows down, listening to Southern rock, and enjoying a slower pace with sunshine on your cheek that can’t be replaced. After a stressful couple of months in New York, I think my trip home was well overdue. It’s funny because when I arrive, I sometimes feel funny wearing the New York uniform of all black and a leather jacket. I remember my past life of sundresses and a cardigan, or jeans and a t-shirt. So for this trip, I combined a little bit of my New York attitude with some good ol’ Southern rock and roll. Let’s start with my Lynyrd Skynyrd band t-shirt that I caught on sale. Many people don’t actually know that these “Freebird” and “Sweet Home Alabama” legends are actually from my hometown of Jacksonville, Florida.

Instead of pairing my tee with jeans, I opted for a more seasonal pair of velvet high waisted pants. They’re comfortable and can be dressed up with a nice blouse, or worn with a tee and some stylish sneakers. Of course I had to throw on my leather jacket and a pair of aviators to add to the overall rock n’ roll aesthetic. And let’s not forget the nude spiked Louboutins which are actually quite comfortable and versatile because of the soft leather and neutral shade. I love this outfit because I feel like it’s the perfect combination of my current style and the home I love so much. But at the end of the day, it’s my family that makes home so amazing, and I can’t wait to spend more time with them over the upcoming holidays. I hope y’all stay tuned to the blog for more posts this month on my holiday style, and of course….gift guides!

So I recently got the opportunity to expand my Fall wardrobe and try out a service called Trunk Club. What’s Trunk Club?

Trunk Club is a curated fashion service that allows you to partner with your very own stylist who helps select new items for your wardrobe, and then mails it to you directly. Basically, you have a fashionable person who picks clothing based on your taste and then a trunk of wonders shows up at your door. How great is that!

So you might ask, I can pick my own clothing.. Why would I need that? Let’s be honest, shopping can sometimes be a stressful experience… and you definitely know what I mean if you live in New York! There’s the crowds, trying things on in a cramped room, and then making a decision on the spot.

Well, Trunk Club allows you to try on in the comfort of your own home, take time to think about it, and even see how pieces blend with others that are already in your closet. That’s a big one for me… Seeing how new purchases will fit in with items I already own, thereby making sure the purchase is really worth it (for more info, read My Golden Rule).

One of the reasons I really like Trunk Club is the interaction with a stylist that can help push your fashion boundaries a bit. Admittedly, we can all get stuck in our fashion ways a bit. For instance, I have an over-abundance of moto-jackets and fit-and-flare dresses. Yes, those are styles that I think work for me… but sometimes it’s great have someone else with style and taste pick out some items for you. You can end up with great pieces you love, that you might not have initially picked for yourself! Speaking of stylists, shout out to my great and patient stylist, Anne, who really took the time to learn about my likes, dislikes, go-to pieces, and lifestyle before curating some items she thought would work great for me.

So after receiving my trunk – the items I love ended up being a couple pieces I could see myself wearing to work. A pair of grayish black ripped jeans, and a silk striped blouse from Equipment, and sensible but stylish Stuart Weitzman sandals. My one call-out is that I feel like I had some fit issues with a couple of the other items in my trunk, so it might take a while to get body-type and fits perfected. If you live in a Trunk Club city, you can also visit the showrooms! Once you receive and try on, you have five days to make a decision if you would like to keep or return the items in your trunk. The best part is that the service is absolutely free, and you only pay for the items you decide to keep!

Overall, I’d say the total experience is fun and convenient – having someone pick out pieces that might push you out of your comfort zone a bit. Both the styling and customer service are great, with quality items (think DVF, Equipment, Vince,) hand picked by stylists who truly want to work with you and embrace feedback. It also comes with easy to understand instructions and care (printed instructions, return labels, and even tape strips to reseal the box).

What do you dolls think, would you ever try a shopping service?

Thank you to Trunk Club for partnering on this post!

Lust List

September Style

fall-winter-2016

1. Chanel.  In person, these sunglasses are the coolest shade of blue that I think would translate well from season to season. Also, the trendy round shape is very in, but these are classic enough to stand the test of time even when trends change.

2. Apple.  The new wave of iPhones has arrived! I’m personally getting one because my current phone screen is cracked, so it’s just time for me. However, with greater storage, an upgraded camera, and no headphone jack, the iPhone 7 is lust-worthy. Plus, I can’t wait to use it with Bose wireless headphones! What do you dolls think, are you trading up?

3. Topshop.  One of my favorite things is to play with differing lengths and hemlines.I love the idea of a short dress or cropped pants with a longer coat layered on top.  This pale blue duster is a gorgeous shade that will add dimension and polish to any Fall look.

4. Shopbop.  I have an obsession with grey sweaters, and I love the feminine details on this Endless Rose number. It’s not your boyfriend’s sweater… it’s better!

5. Philip B.  In the Fall I feel like I can get away with some more time in between hair washes. But to make sure my tresses don’t look greasy and my hair stays fresh, I like to use a dry shampoo. This one, by Philip B, is honestly the best I’ve ever tried. It doesn’t leave behind white reside, is paragon free, doesn’t feel sticky and has the most DIVINE scent. It’s a little bit pricier than the average, but I really can’t rave enough about it.

6. Nars.  Time to transition to a darker lip shade for Fall. This NARS essential is next on my list with it’s moody berry shade and matte finish.

7. Zara.  Chanel? Almost. These comfy and cute Zara cap-toe shoes are a great heel height. And yes, they look like Chanel and are just simply gorgeous. For less than $40, we all need these in our wardrobe.

8. Tibi.  This Tibi dress give me serious Divergent vibes. I feel like it’s what a sexy Erudite leader would wear. Sorry, is my nerd showing? Anyway, the dress is so simple, but the cut and fit is flattering and unique. Plus…navy. Gimme.
