What Am I Going To Wear Today Pt. II

what-am-I-going-to-wear-today

A while ago I wrote a post about the infamous question “what am I going to wear today?” I shared my life hack for never asking myself that question and guaranteeing a quick morning routine during the week. If you haven’t yet, you should read the details of the post, but the long story short is that I pick out all of the week’s outfits on Sunday. Once I’ve got my looks, I hang them in reverse order, so Monday is at the very front of the batch and ready for me to quickly grab in the morning.

While I still stand by that life-hack, I understand that level of planning leaves can seem a little extreme or leave little room for spontaneity. Well to those who think that, I’ve got another method that works for me when I don’t have the time or energy to pull looks on Sunday…the running outfit list!

I put my favorite outfits to wear in a running list that I keep on my phone. So if I’m ever in a bind, I can refer to my list and see what strikes my fancy. Unlike my other method, you don’t have to have your outfit planned, but you have something easy to jog your memory of your favorite looks. An example of items on my list include:

– Black tuxedo pants. Black turtleneck. Leather Jacket. Manolos (black or colorful)
– Reformation Black Midi Dress. Bandana. Blazer or White Vince Jacket. Golden Goose Sneakers.

You’ll see I just use brief identifiers (whether descriptor or brand) to easily delineate each piece. Another way I organize my list is to group the outfits together by sub-category. Since I work in advertising, my work-wear is not overly professional and is my “Every-day” clothing. The other categories I have are “Casual”, “Summer-wear”, and “Evening”. But you can use whatever works for you! What do you dolls think? Would you use this list to have go-to outfits handy?

One of my favorite brands of all time has to be Tibi. I think it’s feminine, modern, and amazing quality. Another thing I love is that their pieces are interesting…there’s always some unique silhouette or detail that adds a little something special to your look.

While their pieces aren’t exactly cheap, if you keep an eye out you can sometimes find a great bargain on a piece that will last you years to come. For example, I found this skirt on sale (featured in one of my very first blog posts) and it still happens to be one of my favorite things I own.

Well, not to make that skirt jealous, but I recently found this other Tibi beauty on sale. Yes, you heard me right…on sale (and at multiple retailers)! The skirts beautiful silk fabric has a two tone-approach, showcasing both a navy and cream side with a beautiful scarf print all-over. In this unseasonably warm and rainy Winter, I opted to wear my skirt with a slouchy Cos sweater and Golden Goose sneaks. However, I can’t wait to dress this up with a mock-neck bodysuit and my favorite pair of heels!

Shirt: COS (sold out).  Skirt: Tibi.  Sneakers (similar): Golden Goose, Golden Goose.  Hat (in black, blue sold-out): Brixton.

When you hear the colors red, white and blue – what season do you think of? Summer, right!

Well, for Fall I took the Americana color palette and made it more appropriate for the cooler temperatures that we’re so desperately wanting.

Stripes are a must for every season in my opinion, and this look is no exception. I paired my favorite blue/white striped skirt with an equally stripey tee from Forever 21. I love the long sleeves and the red-orange hue of the collar and stripes. Plus, the price isn’t bad to boot!

Speaking of boots (or sneakers for that matter), a casual and cool white sneaker goes with absolutely everything! I wear these with the most colorful outfits (like this one) or even all black! I even wear them to business meetings to make work attire more youthful.

Lastly, I finished my look with my red leather jacket that is uniquely Fall! Thriller-inspired, the beautiful red goes with everything from camel (like my beret) to other bright hues. With the addition of the beret, I suddenly feel more Parisian and less Fourth of July. But hey, nothing wrong with bringing a little summer into this season!
