Winter-Wishes

It’s about this time of year in New York that Winter can seem like it will never end. I have to say the blistering winds on my walk to work are not my favorite. But, with winter comes some fun shopping options, including cold-weather wear, dresses for wintertime events, and fun beauty buys to moisturize or primp while staying in your warm and cozy home. This week’s lust list highlights my winter wishes!

1. Iro Moto Black Leather Jacket– So I mentioned this on my Instagram story, but I actually lost my leather jacket recently. It was the softest, buttery leather in such a deep purple it almost looked bluish-black. It’s a tragedy! BUT… another day, another jacket. This Iro leather has a similar buttery texture and will be a Fall/Winter staple in classic black.

2. Uniqlo Cream Cashmere Beanie– Cashmere and Cream – two of my favorite things. And with a price tag under $10 this beanie is an absolute steal and must-have for the remainder of this season. I also love this one!

3. Rebecca Vallance Laced Split Dress– Rachel and I saw this dress in person, and it’s just to-die-for! In a deep navy with a bustier style top and lace-front slit, this is a sexy showstopper for an evening event.

4. Tom Ford Smoke Red Nail Lacquer– Speaking of Rachel, my ravishing redhead just got me the most gorgeous shade of red Tom Ford polish. The color glides on like silk and is the perfect winter “Smoke Red.” Thanks Rach!

5. Smith’s Minted Rose Lip Balm– I find that winter months are when I stock up on a lot of my favorite beauty buys. With the cold weather, my lips are in need of extra moisture. Don’t you ever feel like the more chapstick you put on, the more chapped your lips get? Well not with this tube of minted rose balm by Smith’s. It’s only $5, and so great to keep in your purse or desk. Plus, it’s not sticky and has a great smell. Your lips will thank me!

6. Grace Lee Signet Ring– In recent years, the idea of a signet ring has become more appealing to me. They look a bit old-world, and I feel add a little touch of sophistication to an outfit without being glitzy. This one by Grace Lee comes in different metals and has a little bit of a more feminine shape. Other options here, and here.

7. Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Whipped Body Butter– Winter weather can be brutal for your skin! I know I can feel like an ashy alligator if I don’t moisturize properly. This body butter is one my favorites, with a whipped texture that feels and smells good enough to eat. But don’t! Haha

Hope you all enjoy these picks and stay warm while winter wages on! xo

So you’re probably thinking that the photos above look a tad bit different than what I usually post. That’s because this shoot was styled and photographed by my incredibly talented friend, Jacque Lombardo.  Jacque and I met on her first day at our advertising agency and we soon found mutual comfort and joy in each other, despite both being assigned to a horrible project.  I’d like to think it was fate! And to be quite honest, Jacque had an instrumental role in helping me get started with this blog – so I’ll forever be in her debt and appreciate her unparalleled kindness and expertise.  Jacque was also the one who shot the first couple of looks for Brown Paper Doll before Jason took over the photography reins.

Recently, she mentioned she wanted to shoot me again, this time to create something more editorial. I told her to do whatever she wanted, and I was on board! For this shoot, we chose a formal Veronica Beard gown, my navy faux-fur stole, simple nude sandals and my new favorite earrings, designed locally in NYC.

While this hair and makeup definitely isn’t an everyday look for me, I thought it was great to be pushed out of my comfort zone and experience a different side of fashion and photography.  Actually, I felt like I was in an episode of America’s Next Top Model where the girls get styled for a high-fashion shoot! While I’m no model, I did my best in Central Park and felt like the setting was perfect to highlight the bronzy, nude tone of the dress.  And I’m pretty proud of us, because believe me when I say this was probably the coldest day of the year in New York! Brrrr!  Despite being reserved for formal occasions, I feel like the gown is a great addition to my wardrobe, as it’s glamorous but simple enough to be in style for years to come.

While Jacque and I don’t work together anymore, it was great to collaborate on this fun shoot.  So thanks for pushing me out of box and into the park…freezing as it may have been!

Winter White Paper Doll

Winter white sounds like a good idea in theory. I love whites, creams, and neutrals together – and in the cold weather, it somehow looks even more chic! But in reality, a winter white outfit isn’t necessarily the most practical, especially living in New York. The grime of the city and the natural elements seem to instantly be attracted to white. I think that’s one of the reasons that they say black is a New Yorker’s uniform!

That being said, while home in Florida, I jumped at the chance to ditch my all-black and wear a wintery white look! Even though it was beyond sunny most days, there was still a little chill in the air that was perfect sweater weather. I wore my new Club Monaco sweater with a slightly cropped silhouette and tiered, ruffled sleeves. Rachel and I snagged this on an impromptu shopping trip in SoHo. Sometimes the unexpected shopping days are the ones where you find something you really love. This sweater is just that for me! I paired my sweater with Topshop distressed moto jeans. If you haven’t already, y’all have got to try these on! They’re my favorite! The high-waist, slightly cropped ankle and stretchy material make them so comfortable, but they don’t bag out! I love them.

To keep things neutral, I wore my all white with nude Stuart Weitzman nudist sandals and my new taupe Saint Laurent tote. I felt like I was serving some Kim Kardashian realness with this outfit! Jason and I spent the afternoon in one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city – San Marco. We admired the homes, did a little shopping, and stopped for ice cream when the sun got a bit warm. Overall, what a perfect day! AND, to top things off, I didn’t get any stains on the pristine white ‘fit. I’d call that a major success!
