New York, I Love You

farewell-nyc

So if you’ve been following along with me, then you’ve probably noticed a change of scenery. Jason and I have officially moved back to Atlanta! While I was super excited and ready for the change, it was definitely difficult to say goodbye to New York City. And if you know me personally – then you’d know I’d be lying if I say that I was totally enamored with the big apple from the start. To be honest, moving to New York from the South was a definite adjustment for me. First, it was hard being farther away from my family in Florida. I missed the comforts of home, the southern hospitality, the ease of having my car, and just the overall culture. In New York, the tiniest task like getting groceries took more effort and planning. I was also in a bit of culture shock, because the people aren’t full of the nice and fuzzies like back down South.

Despite being in one of the greatest cities in the world, I found myself feeling tired, lonely, and stressed so much of the time. Mentally and emotionally it took a toll on me that was hard to experience first-hand. For someone who also suffers with anxiety, it was often overwhelming. Despite feeling this way much of the time, New York will always be in my heart. I look back on my time there and would’t trade it for the world. I made the most incredible memories with my best friends, made so many NEW friends, traveled to different places, bolstered my career, and found a strength and conviction within myself that I didn’t know I had. Not to mention, I ate EVERYTHING in that city. Side note, I’m going to have to sign up for a Flywheel membership to combat those culinary experiences.

I always fancied myself a confident and independent person, but in many ways – New York helped me grow up and become unapologetic about being me. So while I’m moving back to Atlanta, I feel like I’m returning as a slightly different person and ready for some new experiences. Thank you, New York. I love you.

So….it’s been a while. Sorry I’ve been so MIA for the past several weeks. First, I spent two weeks in Los Angeles shooting new commercials for work. It was such a fun experience, but I really wanted to dedicate myself to focusing on work, and unfortunately the blog had to take a back seat.

BUT, before I left for the sunshine and palm trees of LA, the lovely and talented Jacque agreed to shoot some of my new picks for Spring. I use the term Spring lightly, since there was still snow on the ground in New York. One of my absolute favorite purchases in recent months has been my Gucci Princetown loafers. They’re so comfortable and bring a boyish ease to any outfit. I love throwing them on with jeans and a tee (as seen here), or even a flowy midi dress. For this outfit, I paired my new loafers with a pair of high-waisted embroidered jeans and a graphic tee with a special message. If you can’t make out the words, the shirt reads “ Support Live Music, Hire Live Musicians.” Purchased at Imogene & Willie, a Nashville staple, the shirt is an ode their hometown and the spirit of music city. As the wife of a once struggling Nashville musician, the shirt really resonated. Not to mention, a portion of the proceeds are donated to a local Nashville music school for children of low-income families. Sold.

In addition to my trip to LA, I’ve had a lot of other changes that I’ve been working through. I’m excited to share the news that Jason and I have officially decided to move back to Atlanta! He’s accepted a new role that he’s excited about, and I’ll be transferring with my current agency. While it’s definitely bittersweet to be leaving New York, Jason and I are thrilled to start a new chapter. Who knows what the future holds, but we think this is the right move for our family and what we hope to achieve in the next couple of years. SO…that means we’ve been a bit preoccupied coordinating the move, figuring out work situations, and just overall planning to get ourselves back down South! I hope y’all can be patient with me if I’m a little slower to post for the next couple of weeks as we get settled. Thanks for bearing with me, and I’m excited about bringing Brown Paper Doll to Atlanta!

Lust List

Neckerchiefs

So this Spring a big trend that has popped um seemingly overnight is that of the neckerchief! It could be a silk scarf, it could be a bandana, it could be a variety of shapes and worn in different ways. Now I’m a huge silk scarf fan, but the ones I have are a bit larger than some on the market recently.

So, I picked up a new silk, square scarf from J.Crew (seen below) and I’ve been tying it as a bandana, as a choker, and even around my purse for a pop of color. The opportunities are endless for ways to tie – and if you’re like me (kinda clueless on how to tie a scarf), then there are some great videos and gifs online giving you step by step instructions!

So I already mentioned that I got the below from J.Crew, but I’ve also rounded up my favorite picks in a variety of colors, shapes and prices.

Have you dolls already hopped on the neckerchief trend this Spring?
