My Summer Color

So this past weekend, my friends from New York came down for a visit to say hello and check out my new home.

Every time the three of us get together, it’s the most fun ever, and this weekend was no exception! We ate at the most amazing restaurants, visited the aquarium, watched movies, and of course…went shopping. I got a new dress for Summer (coming soon to the blog) and the girls got an amazing white moto jacket and a Dior scarf, amongst other goodies. And while all of those things were a blast, it was just nice to be with my two best friends who feel like home. It was hard to leave New York and say goodbye, but this trip left me feeling as hopeful as ever that distance won’t separate us. And it was nice to share my new home with them and let them see me move on to a new stage in life. Go figure…it’s like we’re growing up or something!

Regardless of what we do together, it’s always a fashion-filled affair. We each have such different styles, so it’s so fun to go shopping and also pick out things we think will suit each other. While we were hitting the shops, I noticed that a lot of the items I gravitated to were the color flame- you know, kind of a poppy red hue. And then I realized that I did the same thing last year. I got this hot red number, and my Tom Ford “Flame” lipstick! Well, sticking with that tradition, I got myself a new Summer dress for 2017 in the same shade. I think the color is flattering on everyone, and the peekaboo cut-out shows some skin, without being too much. The best part? It’s under $60 – can you believe it! I think it’s the perfect dress for the 4th of July, a BBQ, outdoor cocktails, or simply a plain ol’ hot Summer’s day! Support Live Musicians

So….it’s been a while. Sorry I’ve been so MIA for the past several weeks. First, I spent two weeks in Los Angeles shooting new commercials for work. It was such a fun experience, but I really wanted to dedicate myself to focusing on work, and unfortunately the blog had to take a back seat.

BUT, before I left for the sunshine and palm trees of LA, the lovely and talented Jacque agreed to shoot some of my new picks for Spring. I use the term Spring lightly, since there was still snow on the ground in New York. One of my absolute favorite purchases in recent months has been my Gucci Princetown loafers. They’re so comfortable and bring a boyish ease to any outfit. I love throwing them on with jeans and a tee (as seen here), or even a flowy midi dress. For this outfit, I paired my new loafers with a pair of high-waisted embroidered jeans and a graphic tee with a special message. If you can’t make out the words, the shirt reads “ Support Live Music, Hire Live Musicians.” Purchased at Imogene & Willie, a Nashville staple, the shirt is an ode their hometown and the spirit of music city. As the wife of a once struggling Nashville musician, the shirt really resonated. Not to mention, a portion of the proceeds are donated to a local Nashville music school for children of low-income families. Sold.

In addition to my trip to LA, I’ve had a lot of other changes that I’ve been working through. I’m excited to share the news that Jason and I have officially decided to move back to Atlanta! He’s accepted a new role that he’s excited about, and I’ll be transferring with my current agency. While it’s definitely bittersweet to be leaving New York, Jason and I are thrilled to start a new chapter. Who knows what the future holds, but we think this is the right move for our family and what we hope to achieve in the next couple of years. SO…that means we’ve been a bit preoccupied coordinating the move, figuring out work situations, and just overall planning to get ourselves back down South! I hope y’all can be patient with me if I’m a little slower to post for the next couple of weeks as we get settled. Thanks for bearing with me, and I’m excited about bringing Brown Paper Doll to Atlanta!

The Doll In Dallas

So I recently had a fun little weekend getaway with Jason to Dallas, Texas! Why Dallas? Why not?! I’ve always heard that it’s such a fun and beautiful city, and I wanted to experience this Southern hub for myself. It was my first trip there, and only my second time to Texas (the first was Austin for my bachelorette).

While every city has it’s own distinct feel and culture – if I had to describe Dallas, it would be to combine Nashville with Buckhead, Atlanta. The people were kind and lovely, the city was bright and clean, and the Southern accents made me feel right at home. My favorite part? The margaritas, guac, and incredible steak. For anyone who visits, the Ritz-Carlton actually has a nightly guac and margarita tasting in the lobby. I was in heaven! I actually liked it so much the chef printed out a copy of the recipe for me! What incredible service, kind staff, and attention to detail. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Dallas, I definitely recommend the Ritz!

Besides gorging myself on Tex-Mex food, Jason and I enjoyed admiring the architecture of the city, and of course…some shopping! We visited the Neiman Marcus flagship store downtown, the incredibly beautiful and fashion-forward Forty-Five Ten, and the luxurious Stanley Korshak. While out on the town, Jase and I took advantage of the lighting and snapped some photos at The Crescent. I love this outfit, because it makes me feel like I’m returning to my love of colorful and flirty looks. The top (from Zara) is so on-trend with its dramatic sleeves, and looks high-end without breaking the bank! And if you can believe it, I actually bought these earrings and skirt separately. They just go so well together! While the skirt looks great with a crisp white shirt, it would also be so cute with a black T and a leather jacket thrown over it for some edge. The earrings are such a deep and gorgeous blue – but they also come in so many other fun colors! My other personal favorite is the hot pink. Wear it with a white collared shirt and a pair of jeans to dress up your casual Friday outfit for work! With my flirty fringed sandals and ruffled sleeves, I feel like this doll is ready for a fiesta! Who am I kidding… I just want an excuse to make that guacamole!
