Cocktails and Shoes: Is there anything else?

Last week I went out on the town for drinks with my friends, and Jacque and I ended up getting our favorite cocktail in all of New York City: The Dirty Jane. For those of you in New York, I totally suggest a visit to The Smith for this pickled-green tomato spin on a vodka dirty martini. I won’t admit how many I had…but needless to say these babies are good!

While there, Jacque and I got to talking about how cocktails have their own style, and how they can go with your mood. Quite similar to shoes actually! So here goes my guide to my favorite cocktails in NYC, and the shoes that go with them! See mom, I do have passions!

1. The aforementioned Dirty Jane (or Dirty Martini) & Christian Louboutin
A classic and sophisticated cocktail calls for a sleek AND chic shoe. With its pointed toe and extra high heel, these pumps are both classy and sexy.

2. Bloody Mary & Rag & Bone
These kicks are reminiscent of my favorite weekend cocktail. Spicy and red, these Rag & Bone sneakers are perfect for wearing to a casual brunch where you can enjoy a spicy tomato cocktail of your own!

3. Hot Toddy & Alexander Wang

A warm whisky shade of brown makes these two the perfect pair. I might be biased because I own these lovely boots – but I love them just the same. The suede is the richest color, and the metallic detail in the heel adds the perfect cool-girl touch!

4. Champagne & Saint Laurent

I want these. So. Badly. What goes better with a glass of bubbly than more sparkles! These boots are not only eye-catching but comfortable. You’ll look like you should be sipping champagne at Studio 54. Santa, if you’re out there…these are at the top of my list!

5. Espresso Martini & Jimmy Choo
Sophisticated and smooth, the deep espresso color of these velvet Mary Jane’s remind me of the rich and velvety coffee flavor of my favorite night-cap.

6. A Manhattan & Steven
I guess it took moving to the city to get me to love this essential cocktail. But being a true Southern gal, I prefer mine with bourbon. The smoky and sweet flavors of this favorite make me think of a velvet smoking slipper in a black cherry shade. Plus, the price is just too good not to indulge!

You might remember that a couple of weeks ago, I included a faux suede jacket on my lust list. Well…some lust list fairy tells do come true! This recent addition to my moto collection is a rich nutmeg shade, and soft faux suede with a silver buckle and zippers. Despite being faux, the fabric doesn’t look cheap…and that was the major selling point for me! It looks a lot more luxe than you would expect for that price point.

And while I was at Zara picking up my new Fall jacket, a glimpse of silver caught my eye. Before I knew it, this skirt was coming home with me! I love the juxtaposition of a classic pleated silhouette with a funky metallic fabric! And paired with a muted top it becomes less tin-foily. I chose a Rag and Bone chiffon crossover blouse with Satin details at the cuffs- literally my favorite shirt these days!

To finish off my look, I wore my Alexander Wang booties in “Dark Truffle.” It’s surprising how well these go with the jacket, and this was actually one of my first times pairing the two together. Again, the color is so rich on the suede, and the tapered toe really gives this mid-heel boot the perfect shape. Of course, my favorite detail (besides the comfort) is the cutout heel inlaid with metallic detail. What a cool touch and signature of Alexander Wang! The boots also come in different heights, fabrics, and metals- so whatever your preference, there is an option for you!

I wore this to a Saturday brunch with my girlfriends, but I could also see myself wearing it to work on a day I feel like shining! What do you all think of this look? Would you rock this moto or metal?

Jacket: Zara. Skirt: Zara. Shirt: Rag & Bone.  Boots: Alexander Wang. Bag: Prada.  Sunglasses: Dior.

Pre-Fall Musings

Pre-Fall-Musings

Even though we’re in the heart of Summer, I can’t help but look forward to Fall. I’m starting to see new colors like bordeaux, forest green, and navy fill my favorite stores, and I’m getting excited at the prospect of cooler weather, sweaters without the ‘sweat’, and of course – boots! Even though Fall isn’t here just yet, I’ve picked a couple transitional pieces that can take you from season to season with ease.

1. Free People. The Western trend has been big this year, especially this belt seen on hollywood it-girls like Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez. While I usually don’t have celeb-envy, I have to say that I love this adjustable, statement belt. I can see myself wearing it around a shirtdress, or pairing it with one of my graphic tees and a leather jacket in the fall. I also love the navy leather and rose gold buckles – I think it’s just a little bit more unique!

2. Zara.  Like I keep saying, give me a dramatic sleeve all day, every day. This powder blue Zara top is great for work with white jeans in the Summer months, or a dark jean and boot as the weather cools down.

3. Maje.  This skirt looks even more amazing in person. The scarlet color and the fringe are unstoppable.

4. Equipment.  I feel like this sweater is so playful with its all-over star print. But somehow, it doesn’t seem overwhelming. The neutral colors and the uber-soft cashmere will make this a cozy addition to my Fall wardrobe.

5. Rag & Bone.  I haven’t tried these in person, but something tells me these lace-up Rag & Bone jeans will be amazing! They remind me of a modernized version of the lace-up jeans that I owned in middled-school.

6. Chanel.  Gel manicures are an addiction of mine. Nothing compares to the high-shine you get with a great gel polish. I’m excited to try this Chanel topcoat which boasts the benefits of the gel manicure without the UV light.

7. Alexander Wang.  The must-haves boots! Ok, so I actually bought these already because I loved them so much. I’m obsessed with the rich brown suede, and the metallic cut-out in the heel. I can’t wait to wear these with both jeans and dresses in the Fall!

8. Jennifer Zeuner.  I’m really feeling this dainty, but oversized gold necklace. The shape instantly inspires thoughts of the 70’s and could easily glamorize any outfit. Plus, it even has a tiny stone inlaid that’s hidden to the naked eye!
